Who are we?
Our purpose and duties:
In so doing, as members of the Cabinet Mountain Bible Church, we promise:
- To work together toward building a community of Christian Love and Fellowship.
- To exercise Christian care and watchfulness over one another.
- To share our burdens, sorrows, and joys, in the light of intercessory prayer.
- To guard the spiritual and scriptural purity of the church in an attitude of peace and unity.
- To provide the world in which we live a positive witness of the Lord Jesus in deeds, attitudes and words.
- To bring up the children entrusted to us in the nurture and love of the Lord.
What we believe:
We believe the scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life. [II Tim. 3:16-17]
We believe Christians are to “rightly divide the word of truth” That is to discern dispensations and interpret accordingly. [II Tim. 2:15; Eph. 1:10; 3:2-3; Col. 1:24-27] We believe the Word of God is completed, thus no more prophecy is needed. [Rev.22:18]
We believe that the Gift of Tongues and the Gift of Healing were used for a specific purpose, as a sign to unbelieving Israel, and we believe that these sign gifts are no longer needed in this present age. Thus this church will not be involved in the present tongues or healing movements. [ I Cor. 14:18-25; Acts 5:12,15]
We believe that God still performs miracles, by the believer praying for God’s will.
We believe in one God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. [Deut. 6:4; II Cor. 13:14; Mt. 28:19]
We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins, according to the scriptures. Further, He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into Heaven, where at the right hand of the majesty on high, He now is our high priest and advocate. [Col.1:15; Jn. 1:1-2; Phil. 2:5-8; Rom. 3:24-25; Mt. 1:18-25; I Peter 2:23-25; Heb. 9:24; 7:25; I Jn. 2:1-2; Acts 1:9-11; Heb. 1:1-3]
We believe in the “Blessed Hope”, the personal, imminent and premillennial coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His redeemed ones, and in His subsequent return to earth with His saints to establish His millennial Kingdom. [I Thess. 4:13-18; Zech. 14:4-11; Rev. 19:11-16; 20:1-6; I Thess. 1:10; 5:9; Rev. 3:10]
We believe that the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, convicts of sin and regenerates those who put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. He indwells all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, baptizes them into the Body of Christ and seals them unto the day of redemption.
We believe that every Christian is commanded of God to be filled with the Holy Spirit. [Jn. 16:7-11, 14; 3:6; Rom. 8:8-16, 26; I Jn. 4:4; Acts 1:8; Eph. 5:18, 6:10-18]
We believe that Satan is an angel, cast out of the Highest heavens, that he has been judged by Christ at the cross and resurrection, that his power is limited by God, and that he shall be cast into the lake of fire. [Is. 14:13-15; Ez. 28:12-17; I Jn. 4:4; Job 1:6-12; Rev. 20:10; Job 2:1-6]
We believe that man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin and is therefore lost. Only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained. [Gen. 1:26; Rom. 5:12; Lk. 19:10; Rom. 3:23]
We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only grounds for justification and salvation for all who believe. Only such as receive Jesus Christ as Savior are born of the Holy Spirit, and thus are the children of God. [Eph. 2:8-10; Titus 2:11-14; Jn. 5:24; Rom. 8:30]
We believe that the true church is composed of all such persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ, of which he is the head. [Eph. 1:22-23; 5:23-27; I Co. 12:12-14; Rev. 19:6-9]
We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament. [Acts 14:27; 20:17, 28-32; Heb. 10:25]
We believe that the Lord’s Supper and water baptism by immersion are ordinances to be observed by the church during this present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as a means of salvation.
We believe the Lord’s Supper to be an ordinance of the church in which born-again believers, by the sacred use of symbolic bread and wine commemorate together the broken body and the shed blood of Christ. This is always proceeded by solemn self-examination. We shall always invite other born-again believers, after self-examination, to participate in our communion Service. [Lk. 22:19-20; Mk. 14:22-25; Mt. 26:26-29; I Cor. 10:16-17, 21; 11:23-31]
We believe that Christ instituted the ordinance of baptism. The subjects of this ordinance are only those who have confessed Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and have expressed a desire to be baptized. We believe the mode of immersion best symbolizes the spiritual baptism, which occurred at the moment one receives Christ as Savior.
In baptism the believer;
- acknowledges the cleansing of the Holy Spirit,
- identifies himself with the Spirit’s inward work of baptism in making him one with Christ in death, burial and resurrection and
- rises to walk the new life. [Mt. 28:18-20; Titus 3:5; Rom. 6:3-6; I Peter 3:21; I Cor. 12:13]
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment. [Mt. 25:46; Jn. 5:28-29; 11:25-26; Rev. 20:5, 6, 12-13]
We believe that the souls of the redeemed are, at death absent from the body and present with the Lord, where in conscious bliss they await the rapture, when spirit, soul and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord. [Lk. 23:43; II Cor. 5:8; Phil. 1:21,23; 3:21; I Thess. 4:16-17]
We believe that the souls of unbelievers remain, after death, in conscious misery until resurrection, when with soul and body reunited, they shall appear at the great white throne judgment, and shall be cast into the lake of fire, not to be annihilated, but to suffer everlasting conscious punishment. [Lk. 16:19-26; Mt. 25:41-46; II Thess. 1:7-9; Jude 6-7;]
